Jakarta - The establishment of the new office of Indonesia-Australia Partnership for Infrastructure (KIAT) is expected to not only provide a working space for employees, but to also be a facility that improves the bilateral relationship of Indonesia-Australia on infrastructure construction in Indonesia. It was revealed by Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono who attended the inauguration of the new KIAT office in Menara Standard Chartered in Jakarta on Monday (22/5/2023).

“Once again, thank you for KIAT’s support. In the future, I expect to improve this cooperation to advance Indonesia,” Minister Basuki said.

Minister Basuki explained that the bilateral relationship of Indonesia-Australia has been excellently established, so it can realise the hopes of both countries for infrastructure development in Indonesia. He also stated his appreciation for the cooperation that has been established between the two countries in the infrastructure sector, which includes roads, clean water, sanitation, and public-private partnership (PPP).

“Uniquely, KIAT does not only help the PUPR Ministry in the physical development programme, but it also introduces regulation concepts such as PPP and regional road grant,” he said.

During the occasion, Minister Basuki also said that he was thankful for the support of the regional road damage handling acceleration programme that is in line with Presidential Instruction No.3/2023 on Acceleration in the Improvement of the Connectivity of Regional Roads that was issued by the President in March 2023.

“It has been proposed to the Finance Ministry to be the state budget’s programme. However, due to the number of complaints on regional road damages to the President, we survived with the presidential instruction on regional roads that we will carry out in July. We also received a report from the Highways Director General that states KIAT will also support the presidential regulation on regional roads to improve the quality of regional roads. Thank you for the support,” Minister Basuki said.
