Jakarta - Welcoming the 42nd Asean Summit on 9-11 May 2023 in Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), the Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Ministry is continuously improving several supporting infrastructures in the Labuan Bajo – Tana Mori area in NTT.

Constructing infrastructures and making them more eco-friendly at the location of the 42nd Asean Summit shows Indonesia’s commitment to bringing Asean to play a crucial role for the people, the region, and the world. It is in line with Indonesia’s Asean chairmanship that adopts the theme ‘Asean Matters: Epicentrum of Growth’.

PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said that his agency instructed all constructions in Labuan Bajo and Tana Mori to be carried out with the best method and quality.

“I am asking for infrastructure quality to be maintained and improved to be in line with standards of international events. Do not play around, the work quality must be the number one priority. Especially road infrastructure, immediately improve the asphalt quality,” Minister Basuki said in his statement on Thursday (4/5/2023).

Supporting facility improvement for the Asean Summit in Labuan Bajo – Tana Mori is carried out by the PUPR Ministry through NTT Regional Settlement Infrastructure Centre (BPPW) of the Human Settlements Directorate General and NTT National Road Implementation Centre (BPJN) of the Highways Directorate General. Facility improvement through area and road corridor organisation is expected to support safety and comfort during the Asean Summit.

NTT BPPW Head Normansjah Wartabone said that supporting facility improvement in Labuan Bajo has currently progressed 77.25%. Meanwhile, the progress of supporting facility improvement in Tana Mori has reached 96.68%. “All constructions are set to be completed in early May 2023, before the Asean Summit,” Normansjah said.

The work scope of NTT BPPW of the Human Settlements Directorate General in Labuan Bajo and Tana Mori includes the construction of West Manggarai Precinct Police (Polres) Command Headquarter (Mako) that has reached 81.89%, Labuan Bajo Marina Promenade zone 4 organisation that has reached 87.92%, and the road corridor landscape quality improvement in Labuan Bajo that is carried out by refilling planting media and recovering plants. Then, they are also constructing the Beach Club Roundabout that has reached 98.00% and the pier shelter that has reached 85.76% as well as installing erosion control matting on the road corridor in Tana Mori.

Meanwhile, NTT BPJN Head Agustinus Junianto said that the work scope of NTT BPJN includes land and road organisation in Labuan Bajo and Tana Mori. “In Labuan Bajo, we are organising the VVIP parking lot at West Manggarai Regent Office that has reached 100%, the road and the sidewalk on Sp. Binongko – Sp. Sylvia (Jl. Waccicu) that has reached 70.87%, and the airport access’ median strip (Yohanes Sehadun),” Agustinus explained.

In Tana Mori, BPJN is organising the entrance roundabout in ITDC that has reached 98.94% and strengthening the slope as well as stabilising the plants on Labuan Bajo – Tana Mori road segment that have reached 100%, which was inaugurated by President Jokowi on 14 March 2023.

Besides that, the PUPR Ministry is also constructing Anak Munting Retention Basin in Warloka Village in Komodo Subdistrict that is located between Labuan Bajo and Tana Mori. Anak Munting Retention Basin has a capacity of 159,000 m3 and a pool of 4.5 hectares. It will mainly be used for conservation and to support tourism in Labuan Bajo Super Priority Tourism Destination (DPSP) in the context of the Asean Summit.
