Jakarta, ID – Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi urges all civil servants of the Transportation Ministry to embrace technological advancements and adopt a visionary approach towards identifying challenges and opportunities in sustainable transportation development.

“I ask civil servants within the Transportation Ministry to be more competent and skilful in managing bureaucracy and fostering sustainable transportation development in the future.,” Transportation Minister Budi said when he closed the Global Leadership Programme and the Sustainable and Entrepreneurial Leadership Programme at the Transportation Ministry Office in Jakarta on Tuesday (7/5/2024).

According to Budi Karya, in this increasingly dynamic era, global competition is increasingly fierce and demand in the transportation sector continues to rise. Therefore, the Transportation Minister is encouraging civil servants within the Transportation Ministry to embrace technological advancements and adopt a visionary approach towards the challenges and opportunities.

The Transportation Minister hopes that middle high officials and primary high officials who attended the programmes can equip themselves as instructors capable of broadening perspectives and mentoring potential successors for the future.

Meanwhile, talented young officials are increasingly more aware of their roles for the future, so they continue to strive to enhance themselves as future leaders.

“I hope the programmes can broaden the mindsets of participants, enabling them to become leaders of change and create added value not only focused on profit but also on delivering better services to the people,” the Transportation Minister said.

The Transportation Ministry is cooperating with Rumah Perubahan to provide leadership training through the Global Leadership Programme and the Sustainable and Entrepreneurial Leadership Programme.

The Global Leadership Programme was held on 22 April 2024, attended by 96 middle high officials and primary high officials.

Meanwhile, the Sustainable and Entrepreneurial Leadership Programme is divided into two waves. The first wave from 22 to 26 April 2024 was attended by 89 administration officials, supervisor/team leader officials, and acting officials. The second wave from 29 April to 6 May 2024 was attended by 90 participants.

Transportation Minister Budi Karya convened a meeting with ambassadors from several member countries of the Intelligent Transport System (ITS) Asia Pacific Forum and representatives from international organisations to present the activity plan for the ITS Asia Pacific Forum 2024 in Jakarta on Monday (6/5). During the session, the Minister extended official invitations to transportation ministers from member countries of the ITS Asia Pacific Forum, urging them to ensure the participation of their respective representatives.

“Indonesia will host the 19th ITS Asia Pacific Forum 2024 in Jakarta from 28 to 30 May 2024. This event is meant to gather stakeholders, policyholders, industry experts, and technology developers to exchange ideas, innovations, and discussions on new advancements in the smart transportation system sector,” the Transportation Minister said.

The participants will include Singapore Ambassador Kwok Fook Seng, Timor Leste Ambassador Agostino Simao Barreto, Bangladesh Ambassador Shajebur Rahman, and Sri Lanka Ambassador Jayanath Siri Kumara Colombage.

The main event of ITS Asia Pacific Forum 2024 is the ministerial roundtable that will invite transportation ministers of ITS member countries and leaders of international organisations.

The ministerial roundtable will provide an opportunity to share experiences, collaborate, and implement sustainable and smart transportation systems across various countries, serving as models for nations in the Asia Pacific region.

According to him, the activity will highlight the important roles of governments, the private sector, and international financial institutions in supporting infrastructure development and the establishment of sustainable and smart transportation systems.

“It will also provide a platform to facilitate collaborations and opportunities between the private sector and governments in developing better transportation systems through concrete creative financing schemes,” the Transportation Minister continued.

The forum will also feature demonstrations and exhibitions showcasing new transportation technologies, including smart transportation systems, autonomous vehicles, electric vehicles, and digital advancements in transportation. These innovations will be thoroughly discussed and showcased during said exhibitions.
