PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk (WIKA) will work on the construction of Lumut Balai Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) Unit 2 Geothermal FCRS and Power Plant owned by PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE). Through the project, WIKA is targeting new renewable energy (NRE) mix to reach 23%.

In this project that has an investment value that has not been revealed yet, the state-owned construction issuer will participate in a consortium with Mitsubishi Corporation and SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction Co Ltd.

Wijaya Karya Operations Director II Harum Akhmad Zuhdi explained that Wika’s involvement in the EPC consortium to construct Lumut Balai PLTP Unit 2 showed the company’s support to the government’s program to affirm decarbonisation. Besides that, this is also part of the smart portfolio of the company that will competently obtain similar NRE projects in the future.

“This agreement also shows the company’s commitment to realising an NRE mix of 23% in Indonesia by 2025,” Harum explained in his official statement on Monday (14/11/2022).

In the agreement regarding Lumut Balai PLTP Unit 2 that has a capacity of 55 MW, the company’s work scope includes civil work for the PLTP and EPC civil work for the fluid collection and reinjection system (FCRS). The project located in Lumut Balai and Margabanyur in South Sumatra is the development of Lumut Balai PLTP Unit 1 that was completed by WIKA in 2019.

Moreover, the signing of the project contract of Lumut Balai Unit 2 was conducted by WIKA Operations Director II Harum Akhmad Zuhdi and representatives from Mitsubishi Corporation and SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction Co Ltd. The signing was conducted at the same time as one of the events of B20 during the Joint Opening Net Zero Summit and B20 Investment Forum session on Friday (11/11/2022).

In line with the government’s target to realise net zero emission, PLTP projects is the solution to mitigate the impacts of climate change. Besides that, PLTPs can also provide clean and eco-friendly energy access that is affordable for the people.
