Jakarta - The Transportation Ministry is committed to continuing the construction of Jakarta-Bandung-Surabaya high-speed railway after the end of the administration of President Joko Widodo and Vice President Ma’ruf Amin.

Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi explained that the extension of the high-speed railway to Surabaya was a transportation project that will commence after 2024.

Hence, Budi Karya said that several efforts were implemented to ensure the continuity of the transportation project, which is Jakarta-Surabaya high-speed railway.

One of the efforts is collaborating with ministries/institutions for the project.

Budi Karya said that that he has coordinated with Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment to ensure the continuity of the extension of the high-speed railway to Surabaya.

“We are handing over the extension of Bandung-Surabaya high-speed railway to the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment to mitigate the efforts,” he said during an interview with Bisnis on Wednesday (8/11).

He added that the study on Jakarta-Bandung-Surabaya high-speed railway has not been carried out until the start of November 2023.

Budi Karya said that the study on the extension of the high-speed railway was the authority of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment.

State-owned Enterprises (SOE) Deputy Minister Kartika Wirjoatmodjo said that Indonesia and China have signed an agreement to conduct a joint study on Bandung-Surabaya high-speed railway.

He said that Indonesia decided to continue their cooperation with China as China is experienced in handling Jakarta-Bandung High-speed Railway. However, until now, he mentioned that a contractor nor a consortium has been appointed to work on the project.

The SOE Deputy Minister continued that the decision regarding the consortium was still waiting for the feasibility study on the project.

“We have not decided on a company, but we will conduct a joint study with the Chinese government through NDRC (National Development and Reform Commission),” he explained recently.
