7 November 2023
Jakarta - The status change of Komodo Airport from a domestic airport to an international airport is still waiting for the decision of the central government.
“We are waiting for the decision from related ministries, which are ministries that have the authority to change Komodo Airport’s status to be an international airport,” Komodo Airport Head Ceppy Triono said in Kupang on Monday (6/11/2023).
Currently, Komodo Airport that is located in a super priority tourism area is still a domestic airport. However, several wide-body aircrafts can already land at the airport.
Several rooms, such as waiting rooms, international lounges, quarantine rooms, as well as rooms from immigration officers and other related agencies have been prepared.
Overall, the size of the passenger terminal at Komodo Airport reaches 13,366 square metres (m2). The size includes waiting rooms for international flights.
He added that the runway at Komodo Airport spans 2,650 metres with a width of 45 metres. It can be landed by jet aircrafts that are the size of Boeing 737 and Airbus A320.
“Currently, Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 can already land at the airport,” he said as quoted by Antara.
Komodo Airport has an apron that can accommodate seven aircrafts at the airport, which consist of four narrow-body aircrafts and three propeller aircrafts.
He continued that, in the future, Komodo Airport would be continuously developed. One of the developments will be a runway extension.
“In principle, services at Komodo Airport will not only be improved this year, but also next year with developments that will improve its services. We are walking simultaneously,” he stated.
