Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura/AP II (Persero) stated that the aircraft load factor at Kertajati Airport has reached around 70%-75%. The load factor, that reaches around 70%, signifies a positive operational performance of airlines.

The aircraft load factor at Kertajati Airport has been increasing in the last 10 days since the transfer of flights from Husein Sastranegara Airport on 29 October 2023. Since 29 October 2023, the load factor has been increasing to reach around 50%-60% to finally reach around 70%-75% on 1 November 2023.

PT Angkasa Pura II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said that the increased load factor signified that people were interested in Kertajati Airport and airlines could accommodate demand.

“Currently, the load factor has reached around 70%-75%, which is quite positive for airlines. People are interested in Kertajati Airport. So, AP II with airlines will continue to increase the load factor in the future,” Awaluddin said in Jakarta on Monday (13/11/2023).

According to Awaluddin, the people in West Java have enjoyed ease of access to and from Kertajati Airport thanks to Cisumdawu Toll Road and various modes of land transportation. He continued that it was one of the factors that boosted the load factor.

Furthermore, Cisumdawu Toll Road makes Bandung that is the capital of West Java to be more accessible from Kertajati Airport. Through the freeway, travel time between Bandung-Kertajati Airport will only take around one hour by private car and 1 hour and 30 minutes ny bus.

Meanwhile, in terms of the number of aircraft passengers, Kertajati Airport currently serve around 2,160 passengers to 3,000 passengers. On weekdays, the number of passengers reaches 2,160 passengers daily.

“On weekends, it can surpass 3,000 passengers. For example, on Friday on 3 November, it reached 3,612 passengers. AP II and airlines will continue to increase the number of passengers,” Awaluddin said.

On Monday (13/112023), Malaysia Airlines inaugurated a new flight route from Kertajati Airport to Lumpur and vice versa. Kertajati Airport Executive General Manager Nuril Huda said that the flight from Kuala Lumpur would land at 7:50 PM Western Indonesia Time (WIB) at Kertajati Airport and depart at 8:50 WIB to Kuala Lumpur.

“Aircraft passengers from and to Kuala Lumpur are dominated by tourists and business players. There are two airlines that operate the route, namely AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines,” Nuril said.

According to Nuril, West Java is a favourite destination among Malaysian tourists, so Kertajati Airport will welcome these foreign tourists excellently with complete supporting facilities.

Top choice

On the other hand, the management of Kertajati West Java International Airport (BIJB) logged that there have been more than 17,000 passengers who flew from Kertajati Airport since its full operation 29 October 2023.

PT BIJB President Director Muhammad Singgih stated that the increasing number of passengers flying from Kertajati Airport is indicative of significant progress and substantial potential for further development..

“The people in West Java are interested in travelling through Kertajati Airport. More than 17,000 passengers are already quite good for Kertajati [Airport],” Singgih said last weekend.

Singgih said that Kertajati Airport was slowly but surely becoming the top choice for people in West Java. So, it can be inferred that passenger migration from Husein Sastranegara Airport in Bandung has been successfully realised.

He said that there were currently three domestic flight routes that are the favourites of passengers, which are Kertajati-Denpasar and Kertajati-Makassar.

“These are the routes that will continue to develop. Besides these existing routes, we will also look at [other] demands from passengers,” Singgih revealed as quoted by Antara.

Furthermore, Singgih revealed that his company was continuously improving their services to guarantee the satisfaction of passengers at Kertajati Airport. One of the ways is by optimising the tenants at the airport.

The tenants consist of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from West Java, so passengers can purchase souvenirs at Kertajati Airport.

“[BIJB] continues to improve so that passengers will be more comfortable at the airport,” he explained.

Singgih is also optimistic about the people in West Java, particularly those from Bandung Raya, Cirebon, and surrounding areas, carrying out air travel through Kertajati Airport. He added that, as of 29 October 2023, Kertajati Airport has established seven domestic flight routes, namely from and to Balikpapan, Banjarmasin, Batam, Denpasar, Makassar, Medan, and Palembang.

Meanwhile, the airlines the serve the routes are AirAsia, Super Air Jet, and Citilink.
