Jakarta - The Hungarian government is increasing its digital technology investment in Indonesia through the multi lane free flow (MLFF) project that is a national strategic project that is worth US$300 million.

Hungary Deputy Head of Mission to Indonesia Ilona Tóth said that the MLFF project investment was one of the largest investments in modern Hungarian history.

“The multi lane free flow project is an ongoing project and one of the largest investments in modern Hungarian history. The value reaches US$300 million,” she said at HunIndoTech 4.0 Business Forum at The Westin Jakarta on Tuesday (14/11).

Tóth said the project was a contactless toll road payment system and a national strategic project of Indonesia. Furthermore, she stated that it was also important to Hungary.

The MLFF project is worked on by PT Roatex Indonesia Toll System, which is a joint venture of Hungary and Indonesia. A trial for the MLFF project is scheduled to commence shortly.

Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono also said that the trial would be conducted in the second week of December 2023.

“It is a foreign direct investment from Hungary. They have a partner here. So, it will not burden toll road enterprises nor use the APBN (state budget),” he said at the event.

Based on Bisnis’ records, the trial process will be conducted for two weeks. The trial will enter the evaluation stage at the end of December 2023.

Later, the evaluation process will assess the MLFF project that will be made a barometer for contactless toll road payment systems in Indonesia in the future.

“We will evaluate it. If it is great and successful, we will expand it. If there are shortcomings, we will improve it first. Then, we will hold another trial before expanding it,” he said.

Meanwhile, Hungarian Ambassador to Indonesia Lilla Karsay revealed that the project would be a success story for both countries, and it was also the largest technology transfer in Hungarian history.
