Investor Daily - Proyek tol Stasiun Whoosh Karawang masuk PSN

21 November 2023

Jakarta - The Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Ministry revealed that the construction of the toll road access to Whoosh’s Karawang Station in West Java is currently in the land acquisition process.

“We are carrying out the land acquisition with State Asset Management Agency (LMAN),” Highways Director General of the PUPR Ministry Hedy Rahadian said in Jakarta on Monday (20/11/2023).

According to Hedy, the PUPR Ministry is targeting the toll road access construction to commence next year.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet Secretary Minister has sent a letter to the PUPR Minister, proposing the inclusion of the Karawang Station toll road accessibility project on the National Strategic Project (PSN) list. Once the project secures a spot on the PSN list, the land acquisition procedure will commence, paving the way for the LMAN to finance the project.

The government has determined Whoosh high-speed railway to be a PSN with Presidential Regulation Number 3 of 2016 on National Strategic Project Acceleration.

Whoosh high-speed railway that can go at a speed of 350 kilometres per hour will cut travel time from Jakarta to Bandung from three hours to only 40 minutes.

Whoosh spans 142.3 kilometres with 82.7 kilometres of elevated structures. Meanwhile, the rest of the track is laid out within 13 tunnels.

The high-speed railway stops at four stations, namely Halim Station (Jakarta), Karawang Station, Padalarang Station, and Tegalluar Station (Bandung).

With the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway, the mobility of passengers and cargo can increase and be faster. It will also improve economic competitiveness.

Previously, PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC) President Director Dwiyana Slamet Riyadi said that, as of 14 November 2023, Whoosh has transported 352,000 passengers from Jakarta to Bandung since its commercial operations began. The frequency of Whoosh’s daily trips has also seen a significant increase, rising from an initial 14 trips to the current 36 trips.

“It shows that Whoosh has become an important mode of transportation to travel between Jakarta and Bandung,” Dwiyana said in his official statement last week that was quoted by Antara.
