Mangupura - The retender of the construction of Gilimanuk-Mengwi toll road is ready to be held in November 2023 to boost the development of the freeway segment that spans 96.84 km.

Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono explained that the retender would be carried out as the initial investor failed to construct the longest toll road in Bali.

“We are tendering [it again] as the previous investor failed to obtain funding. So, in line with the regulation, we cancelled it. Hopefully, it can be tendered [again] in November,” Basuki said in Bali on Thursday (12/10).

Basuki hopes that the tender that will be carried out by the Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) could secure an investor so that construction can commence. The government is opening an opportunity for domestic and foreign investors to be involved in funding Gilimanuk-Mengwi toll road.

Basuki guarantees that the construction of the toll road is still in the government’s plan.

He mentioned that BPJT has provided an explanation to locals affected by the construction on the construction’s certainty.

“BPJT has met with the villagers to explain the progress [of Gilimanuk-Mengwi toll road],” Basuki said.

The investment cost is predicted to reach Rp24.6 trillion. Gilimanuk-Mengwi toll road is set to be completed in 2028. However, the PUPR Minister hopes that the project will be completed at the end of 2025.

Gilimanuk-Mengwi toll road is divided into three sections, namely section 1 (Gilimanuk-Pekutatan) spanning 53.6 km, section 2 (Pekutatan-Soka) spanning 24.3 km, and section 3 (Soka-Mengwi) spanning 18.9 km.

The cornerstone placement of Gilimanuk-Mengwi toll road was carried out PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono with Bali Governor I Wayan Koster in Pekutatan in Jembrana on 10 September 2022.

Moreover, Gilimanuk-Mengwi toll road will be constructed across 3 regencies, 13 districts, and 58 villages.
