Jakarta - In commemoration of the National Transportation Day on 17 September 2023, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi invited all transportation people to work together to advance transportation in Indonesia. The Transportation Minister said that the performance of the transportation sector must be improved to provide prime services for the people.

“In accordance with the National Transportation Day theme this year, which is Advancing for Advanced Transportation. It means that transportation people must be able to consistently and enthusiastically carry out real work to realise transformation and innovation,” the Transportation Minister said when he lead the National Transportation Day Ceremony at the headquarters of the Transportation Ministry on Sunday (17/9).

Furthermore, the Transportation Minister mentioned that, through transformation and innovation, the transportation sector would be more organised, which would advance Indonesia to be an advanced country.

“We are continuously boosting sustainable and eco-friendly developments, and we are also continuously improving the safety of transportation services,” he said.

By taking advantage of the National Transportation Day momentum, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi is also encouraging all transportation people to consistently construct and develop transportation infrastructure all over Indonesia, which includes land, maritime, air, and railway transportation infrastructure.

As several transportation facilities and infrastructure have been constructed, the Transportation Minister has instructed his agency to ensure that the transportation infrastructure that have been constructed are optimal as well as encourage economic growth and welfare.

From 2014 to 2023, Transportation Ministry has constructed several land, maritime, air, and railway transportation infrastructure.

On land, the Transportation Ministry has revitalised and rehabilitated type A terminals at 140 locations and constructed type A terminals at 5 locations. Regarding ferry service, ferry ports have been rehabilitated at 151 locations and constructed at 76 locations.

At sea, ports have been rehabilitated at 164 locations and have been constructed at 18 locations.

In the air, the Transportation Ministry has rehabilitated airports at 38 locations and constructed new airports at 16 locations. The airports include Rokot Sipora Airport in Mentawai in West Sumatra, Kertajati Airport in West Java, APT Pranoto Airport in Samarinda in East Kalimantan, Miangas Airport in North Sulawesi, Namniwel Airport in Maluku, and Werur Airport in Papua.

In the railway sector, 1,683 kilometres (km) of railway tracks have been constructed and reactivated, which include the tracks of Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway spanning 152.46 km (double-track railway), Jabodebek LRT spanning 49.21 km (double-track railway), South Sumatra LRT spanning 23.4 km (double-track railway), and Jakarta LRT spanning 5.8 km (double-track railway).

Besides that, 1,900 km of railway tracks have been improved and rehabilitated, 145.24 km have been constructed, and 88 railway stations have been modernised.

The Transportation Ministry is continuously committed to improving interregional connectivity in Indonesia using an Indonesia-centric paradigm, which means that they will not only construct transportation infrastructure in urban areas, but also remote areas. This year, various strategic facilities and transportation have operated, such as Jabodebek LRT, the high-speed railway, several ports, as well as terminals and airports in remote, underdeveloped, outermost, and border (3T) areas.
