Investor Daily - Presiden minta moda transportasi Jabodebek segera diintegrasikan

29 September 2023

Jakarta - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is asking the central government, regional governments, and state-owned enterprises (SOEs) to cooperate to integrate the modes of public transportation that connect Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, and Bekasi (Jabodebek).

“Earlier, the President asked as to integrate the modes [of transportation] in Jabodebek. So, we cannot be divided. There are SOEs, regional governments, and the central government. So, how can we integrate these transportation systems into one organisation,” Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said after a limited meeting at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday (27/9/2023).

He said that President Jokowi ordered the integration process to be carried out in the next month to organise the single organisation structure.

Besides that, Luhut said that the policy also set an integrated ticketing system.

“How people can buy a season ticket or a monthly ticket to use a certain transportation. For example, a passenger can use the LRT from Bogor, but then they can use TransJakarta,” he said.

“Jakarta-Bandung High-speed Railway will be integrated with the Light Rail Transit (LRT) and TransJakarta,” Luhut said.

“So, the point is that we will reduce private vehicles by improving public vehicles so that they are comfortable and affordable,” he said.

According to Luhut, the use of fuel vehicles produces pollution that is costing the state hundreds of trillions.

One of the solutions from the government is to prepare electric mass transportation that is eco-friendly and comfortable.

“For example, electric buses are more expensive than diesel buses. So, we will subsidise it for 15 years instead of 10 years so that the cost will be reduced,” he said.
