This quarterly global snapshot of activity in the technology sector highlights trends, business challenges and opportunities. In this edition we review the fourth calendar quarter of 2015.
The technology sector posted quarter-over-quarter growth of 5.6% and marginal year-over-year growth of 0.2% in the fourth quarter of 2015. North America remained the strongest region for revenue growth, followed by Western Europe and Asia-Pacific.
The Internet subsector was once again the bright light, seeing an almost 20% year-over-year increase, while Software Services grew by 5.3%. The remaining subsectors suffered losses in terms of year-over-year performance. In response to lackluster performance, transformational activities continued, with the quarter seeing several significant spin-offs, division sales and acquisitions.
Economically the quarter was marked by mixed economic performance across major markets, creating uncertainty that resulted in high market volatility. The VIX Index started the quarter at 22.55, hit a low of 14.15 in early November and closed the quarter at 18.21.
