The development of an ESG management system was key to the successful implementation of the strategy. This enabled measurable tracking to ensure strategy adoption and continuous improvement across all business units.

With no legacy ESG framework to use as a base,  it gave us the opportunity to create a  tailored, focussed ESG strategy from scratch and to identify the best fit ESG management system for the client.

How we helped

Leveraging our global ESG strategic experience and working with the Head of Sustainable Food Supply and ESG of this renowned food conglomerate in KSA, we followed four clear steps:

1. Materiality assessment.

We conducted a materiality assessment with close incorporation of internal and external stakeholders’ perspectives, and benchmarked peer food organisations to determine the most important ESG topics to the client.

2. Defining a clear client centric ESG strategy

We then defined the strategic pillars that formed the client’s ESG strategy and identified KPIs for ESG performance measurement, in line with the client’s stated ambitions.

3.  Development of client’s ESG Narrative

Based on our ESG strategy, we articulated a differentiating ESG narrative in line with international standards and stakeholders’ expectations.

4. Recommendation of ESG Management System

Strategy& supported the client in identifying an ESG management system software to systematically track, monitor, and steer performance in the strategic focus areas across all business units.

Impact and potential

The development of an end-to-end ESG solution ensured the company continued to focus on its holistic food systems, as well as on responsible sourcing, preservation of natural resources and minimising waste. The implementation of measurable KPIs, such as greenhouse gas footprint and the target percentage of women in management positions and a framework for reporting and monitoring the KPIs, gave the company a clear focus to develop and grow.

As a result of the project there was also a greater understanding of ESG across the organisation and a raised awareness of the focus topics identified by the client as critical to ensure its future sustainable growth.
