She is also actively involved in our Watani Programme supporting her professional development within the firm. From a graduate to a senior associate role, find out more about her journey including her experiences, challenges and valuable lessons learned along the way.

What inspired you to join our Graduate programme?

I've always been passionate about Finance and wanted to join an organisation where I could enhance my skills across various Finance domains. As a recent university graduate, I was keen to join a company that prioritised continuous learning and professional growth. When a friend suggested the Graduate programme at PwC Middle East, for its rotational opportunities in finance, that caught my attention, and I was immediately interested. The idea of gaining exposure to different opportunities in finance and collaborating with various clients across a range of industries, was highly appealing. I was looking for a company that offered diverse work opportunities and had a legacy of upskilling its people, which led me to join this programme.

Can you share a memorable project or experience from your time as a graduate at our firm? What did you learn from it?

One memorable experience was when I was tasked with overseeing multiple stakeholders for a significant project. Initially, I felt anxious, given my relatively short time at the firm - just one year in. However, this opportunity turned out to be incredibly rewarding. It was a validating experience because, despite my junior status, I proved to myself that I was capable of handling more responsibilities. Throughout the project, I developed my skills in stakeholder management, data analytics, and compliance. Despite that initial feeling, I completed the project with a sense of accomplishment, realising that with determination and the support of my colleagues, I could tackle any challenge. This experience taught me the importance of perseverance and the value of stepping out of my comfort zone.

What courses, certifications, and skills have you gained that have helped you in your career so far?

I graduated with a degree in Finance from the American University of Sharjah which laid the foundation of my career. As part of joining the graduate programme, I completed several courses to enhance my data and digital knowledge. I have also delved into financial modelling, which has improved my Excel skills and analytical abilities.  I'm grateful for the investment that PwC makes in our skill development through the graduate programme and beyond, as it has contributed significantly to my growth.

Can you share a setback or obstacle that you’ve faced in your career and how you overcame it?

Halfway through the graduate programme, my manager fell ill, shortly after, my senior manager had to take an emergency leave. This meant that I had to take on additional tasks, but I was confident that my team and I could deliver. Despite my relatively short time in the firm, I embraced this opportunity, and learnt invaluable lessons in client management, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality work, and stakeholder engagement. Handling the additional workload, taught me the importance of prioritisation, organisation, and being flexible. This experience reinforced my ability to thrive under pressure and highlighted the importance of teamwork and resilience in overcoming challenges and unforeseen circumstances.

Regarding work-life balance, how do you manage it effectively?

Maintaining a healthy work-life balance is important to me, and one non-negotiable aspect of my routine is going to the gym. Exercise serves as a reset button, helping me structure my day and boosting my energy levels and productivity. Whether it's before or after work, going to the gym not only promotes physical well-being but also encourages healthy eating habits and enhances my overall work ethic. Making time for exercise ensures that I show up at work as my best self, ready to tackle any challenges that come my way.

How has your participation in the Watani programme enhanced your journey as an Emirati graduate in our firm?

The Watani programme has been key in my professional development, offering invaluable support for UAE Nationals within the firm. Beyond my daily responsibilities, I've had the privilege to engage in extracurricular activities such as career fairs, Ramadan iftars, and participation in the UAE national day committee. These experiences have not only broadened my horizons but have also encouraged a sense of community and belonging.

What advice would you give to someone following the same path?

I would encourage them to prioritise growth. Seize the right opportunities to learn and expand your skills. This is the time to invest in yourself and push beyond your comfort zone. Reflecting on the advice from my relative, it's important to avoid complacency and embrace new opportunities that match your goals and values for ongoing personal and professional growth.
