Bisnis, Jakarta – PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) has agreed on a cooperation contract worth Rp4.7 trillion with Sojitz Corporation to work on MRT’s phase 2A route from Bundaran HI to Kota.

MRT Jakarta Corporate Secretary Division Head Ahmad Pratomo said that the payment to Sojitz would use the loan from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to construct the second phase of Jakarta MRT.

According to him, the payment is scheme is similar to the one used for Jakarta MRT’s first phase from Lebak Bulus to Bundaran HI. Payment to the contractor will be made in stages in line with the construction progress.

“Later, the one who will make the payment [to the contractor] is JICA. Similar to the scheme in the first phase,” he said when asked for a confirmation on Thursday (18/4).

Based on the information from the official website of MRT Jakarta, the construction of Jakarta MRT is financed by the central government and Jakarta Provincial Government with support from a loan from the Japanese government through JICA.

In accordance with Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Regulation No. 1/2018, the amount of loan increased from US$191 million in the first phase to US$1.67 billion in the second phase.

Previously, MRT Jakarta President Director Tuhiyat also explained that the agreement was the end of the long wait of the company for a contractor. He said that the tender process had failed three times before Sojitz secured the contract.

One of the factors that led to the tender failing was the Covid-19 pandemic. Besides that, the tender process was also affected by other external factors, such as the geopolitical tension in numerous regions.

“Besides that, there was also a lack of semiconductors that hindered the tender at the time,” he stated.
