Jakarta, ID – The Indonesia National Shipowners’ Association (INSA) through its representative in Asia is highlighting the significance of collaboration between the national shipping industry and its counterparts in the Asian region.
At the Asian Shipowners’ Association (ASA) meeting held in Singapore through the ASA Shipping Dialogue (ASD), ASA Vice President Carmelita Hartoto said that the challenges faced by the maritime industry in Asia included the emissions trading system from the European Union (EU) and the need for fair maritime transition for sailors. “We, as one of the largest shipping industries, are strengthening the commitment of regional shipping stakeholders to prioritise collaborative efforts for the creation of a more conducive shipping industry in Asia and globally,” Carmelita said to Investor Daily in Jakarta on Wednesday (17/4/2024).
Besides that, Carmelita said that the involvement of all parties, including the government, shipping business players, and shipping organisations, was crucial to maintain shipping security and safety in Asia to remain safe and stable. Therefore, international trade through Asia can be facilitated. “The involvement of all parties is crucial to maintain shipping security in Asia as Asia plays a pivotal role in facilitating global trade,” Carmelita revealed.
The ASA Shipping Dialogue forum was attended by numerous leaders in the global shipping industry, governments, as well as global and Asian maritime figures.
At the forum, Carmelita who is also the President of the Federation ASEAN Shipowners’ Association (FASA) delivered closing remarks at the end of the ASA Shipping Dialogue forum. She expressed gratitude to all speakers who have shared their perspectives on various topics at the 2024 ASD.
