11 December 2024
Jakarta, ID – Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi and State-owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir are testing the reliability and comfort of the direct train service from Gambir Station to Tawang Station in Semarang, Central Java.
Transportation Minister Dudy is also inviting the public to experience travelling on a train without the need for transit stops, offering quality and comfortable travel. "This is an additional facility that provides a new experience for long-distance train users," the Transportation Minister said in Jakarta on Tuesday (10/12/2024).
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), or PT KAI, mentioned that 350 seats on the direct train were sold in just one night for the trip on Monday night (9/12).
Meanwhile, State-owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir added that the launch of the Jakarta-Semarang direct train is an effort to provide a more comfortable and efficient transportation solution for the public.
"We are offering a solution to the public with the introduction of a train that can travel directly to Semarang," he stated.
Minister Erick mentioned that the trip serves as an evaluation of this new breakthrough in the land transportation sector. This innovation has captured public attention, as evidenced by the high demand for tickets on the direct train.
"We hope that everyone on board the train will help promote it, as it has already attracted significant public interest, with tickets for the direct train selling out immediately," Erick stated.
He believes that departing the train at 11pm Western Indonesia Time (WIB) is a strategic choice, offering flexibility for those who wish to travel. Additionally, Erick highlighted the improved facilities at the station, such as shower rooms, locker rooms, a variety of food options, and a pharmacy, all now available at Gambir Station.
Erick added that the trial is a concrete step towards fulfilling President Prabowo Subianto's directive to enhance public service quality in the transportation sector. "Hopefully, this improved service aligns with President Prabowo's directive to ensure that we are enhancing our services for the people," he stated.
Presidential Envoy for the Development of Youth and Creatives, Raffi Ahmad, who also attended the trial, mentioned that he will personally share his experience as a passenger. He added that trains are one of the most popular modes of transportation in Indonesia.
"Trains are a favourite, especially for families and young people. Many of our creatives use the train to travel to other cities. We hope that the facilities on the direct train are comfortable for families, as well as for people with disabilities," Raffi Ahmad stated.
