Jakarta, ID – The State-owned Enterprise (SOE) Ministry ensures that Jabodebek Light Rail Transit (LRT) project will be connected to Jakarta-Bandung High-speed Railway (KCJB) at Halim Station. Both railway projects will operate in the middle of this year.

“Later, people who board the high-speed railway from Bandung can get off at Halim Station then use Jabodebek LRT to continue their journey to the centre of Jakarta. This will facilitate and provide comfort for the people using the public transportation,” Special Staff to the SOE Minister Arya Sinulingga said during a press conference in Jakarta on Friday (3/2/2023).

Arya affirmed that Jabodebek LRT would be integrated with KCJB, especially at Halim Station. This will facilitate the people’s mobility with a more efficient travel time. Jabodebek LRT is expected to reduce traffic congestions in Jakarta and its vicinity.

“Jabodebek LRT is an integration momentum for public transportations in Jakarta and its surroundings,” Arya affirmed.

Arya said that Jabodebek LRT would positively impact railway industry development in Indonesia as it would be operated without a driver or autonomously. Then, all carriages of Jabodebek LRT are produced domestically by PT Inka (Persero). Meanwhile, the system is made by PT Len Industri (Persero) in cooperation with the international company Siemens.

“The LRT will not use a driver,” he said.

Furthermore, Arya added that the LRT would operate simultaneously with KCJB.

“In the middle of this year,” Arya stated.

Meanwhile, LRT Jabodebek Public Relations Manager Kuswardojo revealed that Jabodebek LRT was set to be completed and to operate in July this year.

“Currently, PT KAI (Persero) as the operator of Jabodebek LRT with related parties are continuously preparing various aspects so that Jabodebek LRT can operate in accordance with the planned target,” Kuswardojo said recently.

Kuswardojo said that Jabodebek LRT would be operated using the communication-based train control (CBTC) system with Grade of Automation (GoA) 3. The CBTC system is a communication-based train operation system, so the system can operate the train and forecasts schedules automatically from the operation control centre without a driver.

“Even though there is no driver, during trips, Jabodebek LRT will still have train attendants to provide services to customers and handle emergency conditions if needed,” he revealed.

In serving the people, he said that Jabodebek LRT would operate 31 trainsets. Each trainset consists of six carriages. Jabodebek LRT can carry 1,308 passengers.

Kuswardojo mentioned that this mode of transportation would operate from 5:00 AM to 11:27 PM WIB (Western Indonesia Time). Later, Jabodebek LRT will serve an average of 434 train trips per day with an initial target of 137 thousand users.

Besides that, Jabodebek LRT arrives every four minutes at Dukuh Atas Station-Cawang, eight minutes at Jati Mulya Station-Cawang, and eight minutes at Harjamukti Station-Cawang.

Jabodebek LRT will serve the people with 18 stations, namely Dukuh Atas, Setiabudi, Rasuna Said, Kuningan, Pancoran, CIkoko, Ciliwung, cawing, TMII, Kampung Rambutan, Ciracas, Harjamukti, Halim, Jatibening Baru, Cikunir I, Cikunir II, Bekasi Barat, and Jati Mulya.

According to Kuswardojo, the stations are integrated with other modes of transportation to facilitate the mobilisation of the people. Besides that, Jabodebek LRT stations are scattered at strategic locations in housing, shopping, and business areas.

In its operation, Jabodebek LRT will implement the cashless system that use existing electronic money cards, such as KMT, electronic money cards, as well as digital wallets or e-wallets.

“KAI is also preparing staff at stations, including counter clerks, passenger service staff, cleaning service, health staff, and security to optimise services for customers at all Jabodebek LRT stations,” Kuswardojo said.

Must be connected

Meanwhile, House of Representatives (DPR) Commission VI Deputy Chairperson Martin Manurung reminded that Jabodebek LRT that would connect several cities such as Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, and Bekasi must be connected to various modes of transportation around the cities. According to him, the LRT will go through Jakarta, Depok, and Bekasi that have different transportation facilities, such as angkot (public minivan), TransJakarta, and other transportations.

“I noted that the LRT must be connected to other modes of transportation in other cities, such as angkot, TransJakarta, and others. This is a challenge so that our LRT is the same as LRTs in other countries where passengers do not have to purchase different tickets,” Martin said in his statement earlier this week.

Moreover, the safety of Jabodebek LRT must be the most important aspect so that the public’s trust in the national public transportation improves.

“If it is successful, it will reduce traffic congestions in Jabodebek (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, and Bekasi),” Martin said.

Martin hopes that Jakarta LRT will be a success story for Indonesia in the future.

“Because our country also has an LRT transportation system that completes other modes of transportation,” he said.
