Bisnis, Jakarta – PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) is currently processing the location for the groundbreaking of the first phase of the east-west route of the integrated mass rapid transit project from Tomang to Medan Satria, spanning 24 kilometres (km).
MRT Jakarta President Director Tuhiyat stated that the groundbreaking of the project required coordination with Jakarta Provincial Government.
Following this, Tuhiyat said that his company would further coordinate the location with the State Secretariat Ministry.
Moreover, President Joko Widodo is still focused on preparations for the 79th Independence Day ceremony in Nusantara Capital City (IKN).
“The date will be adjusted according to the situation. We also have the Independence Day ceremony that will be attended by the government in IKN,” he explained in Jakarta on Thursday (11/7).
The east-west route of the mass rapid transit (MRT) project, which is also known as MRT Phase 3, will span from Cikarang in West Java to Balaraja in Banten. The project will be divided into two phases. The first phase that is expected to operate in 2031 with construction set to commence in 2024 will encompass the Jakarta area, while the second phase that is set to operate in 2033 will encompass Banten and West Java.
The first phase will be further divided into two stages. The first stage will span 24,527 km from Tomang, Dukuh Atas, Senen, Perintis, to Medan Satria. Meanwhile, the second stage will span 9.23 km from Tomang to Kembangan.
Similarly, the second phase of the east-west MRT project will also be split into two parts. The Banten Phase will cover a distance of 29.9 km from Kembangan, through Kelapa Dua, to Balaraja. The West Java Phase will cover a distance of 20.43 km from Medan Satria to Cikarang.
MRT Jakarta Operations and Maintenance Director Mega Natangsa Tarigan said that Jakarta MRT successfully carried 18.48 million passengers in the first half of 2024. The average daily ridership of Jakarta MRT in the first half of 2024 reached 101,581 passengers, which surpassed the daily average target of 97,000 individuals.
Mega indicated that the rise in ridership demonstrated a positive shift in public behaviour with more people opting for public transportation over private vehicles.
