Jakarta, ID – Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi is checking the readiness of transportation infrastructure in several locations in West Java to anticipate the homecoming flow of Eid 2024.

Some of the infrastructure visited are Kertajati West Java International Airport, Cisumdawu and Cipali toll roads, as well as Cirebon Railway Station.

Transportation Minister Budi Karya emphasised the importance of collaborating among sectors to accommodate the homecoming flow. To ensure the smoothness of the homecoming flow, coordination and collaboration among the Transportation Ministry, the Indonesian National Police (Polri), regional governments, Jasa Marga, Angkasa Pura, PT KAI, and other stakeholders are required.

“The presidential instruction mentioned that homecoming must be smooth, safe, and comfortable. Hence, collaboration among various parties is required, even though the Transportation Ministry acts as the leading sector. Until now, collaborations have been established excellently with related stakeholders,” Budi Karya said in his press statement as quoted on Monday (11/3/2024).

Furthermore, the Transportation Minister is encouraging individuals who will be conducting homecoming to prepare and depart early.

During the occasion, Polri Traffic Corps Head Inspector General of Police Aan Suhanan mentioned that his team, in collaboration with the Transportation Ministry, aimed to ensure excellent management of crucial points in West Java prone to traffic congestion and accidents during the homecoming period. These include Cisumdawu toll road as well as Cipali toll road at KM 152 and KM 188.

“Hence, traffic flow at these points is expected to operate smoothly, ultimately reducing the number of accidents,” he added.

On a separate occasion, the Transportation Minister also checked Giwangan Type A Terminal in Yogyakarta that will be soon revitalised. According to him, the government is committed to revitalising all terminals in Indonesia. Revitalisations will be carried out to improve land transportation services, so bus terminals will not only be where passengers get on and off buses, but they can also function as offices, housing, hotels, shopping centres, and public service centres that are integrated with other modes of transportation.

“President Jokowi is committed to revitalising terminals in Indonesia to improve their services to the public,” the Transportation Minister said.

The revitalisation of Giwangan Terminal is planned to be carried out in two stages to ensure uninterrupted public service. In the initial phase, activities will involve preparation and preliminary work, renovation of the southern side of the building, mechanical and electrical enhancements on the second floor, and the organisation of a double-decker bus lane.

Activities in the second phase include preparation and preliminary work, renovation of the central and northern sides of the building, mechanical and electrical enhancements, as well as fence installation.
