Investor Daily - PUPR terapkan teknologi konstruksi tahan gempa di IKN

26 March 2024

Jakarta, ID – The Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Ministry is employing a modular and volumetric technology known as the Mobile Box (Mobox) for the construction of several housing projects in Nusantara Capital City (IKN).

The Mobox technology offers various advantages in housing and infrastructure construction, with two notable benefits being earthquake resistance and eco-friendliness.

“We are continuously utilising various technological innovations to accelerate housing development in IKN. One such innovation is the utilisation of the Mobile Box technology developed by PT Adhi Karya to construct housing for construction workers,” Housing Director General of the PUPR Ministry Iwan Suprijanto said at a recent press conference.

Iwan explained that the Mobox technology is anticipated to assist the government in constructing various types of housing structures, including temporary facilities and worker camps. These structures are expected to be dynamic, adaptive, efficient, eco-friendly, and require fewer workers in the field.

Furthermore, the Mobox technology has been tested for earthquake resistance and is known for its excellent quality. It can be easily delivered throughout Indonesia and is simple to assemble and disassemble, allowing for convenient transportation and construction without the need for heavy equipment.

Iwan explained that the Mobox technology has achieved various milestones. For instance, the technology, which features a plug and play functionality, has been copyrighted at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights on 20 June 2022.

He also mentioned that the technology has been recognized by MURI for its achievement in constructing offices without the need for heavy equipment. Additionally, the Mobox technology has received an award at IDX Channel Anugerah Inovasi Indonesia 2023 (IC-AII 2023) in the best product and business model category.

Iwan said that the PUPR Ministry, in constructing housing covering 25,116 square meters for construction workers, utilised the Mobox technology by employing 1,000 boxes over three months. Additionally, the technology was also used to build a mosque for the convenience of construction workers.

The Mobile Box technology is developed by PT Adhi Persada Gedung that is part of PT Adhi Karya.

The Mobox technology comes in three variants, namely the 6x6, 3x6, and 3x3 variants. It is a design and construction system comprising precise modular units fabricated off-site. The system is adaptable to the user's requirements, serving as a foundation for determining the number and placement of modules.

Construction using a modular and volumetric technology, in essence, involves prefabricated rooms or parts of rooms, comprising walls, floors, and ceilings, with factory standards, which are then transported to the site for assembly.

This type of construction is used for permanent modular projects that can be relocated. The assembly of the modules can be conducted off-site or at the factory under controlled conditions, ensuring that they meet the required standards.

The Mobox technology can also be delivered to various regions with minimum transportation requirements, such as with container trucks.

The installation process for the Mobox technology can be customised for time and cost efficiency, requiring minimal workforce. It is also adaptable to dynamic situations and is both eco-friendly and secure, having successfully passed an earthquake test at the Training and Development Centre of the PUPR Ministry in Cileunyi with no significant damage even at a magnitude of 9 on the Richter scale.

“We are currently utilising the Mobox technology to construct housing for construction workers and a mosque in IKN,” Iwan said.

He hopes that the utilisation of this innovation will be part of the revolution of the construction sector in Indonesia and boost the utilisation of domestic technologies in infrastructure development in Indonesia.
