The ever popular Family Library Summer Reading Scheme has returned again this year with the continued support from PwC Isle of Man.
During the summer holidays, the Family Library encourages its young members to sign up for their exciting reading scheme. Children are challenged to read and review six books, with stickers and badges awarded along the way including a certificate and celebration party in September for those who complete it.
Each year the theme of the scheme changes - this year it is Big Ted’s summer adventure. For added fun, children can go on a hunt to find Big Ted who has gone somewhere on the Island for this holiday.
Sue Jolly, Library Manager at the Family Library, said: “We’re hugely grateful for the continued support from PwC Isle of Man, with the support from them it means we can offer the scheme for free to all children who wish to sign up. Although donations are most welcome.
“The reading challenge is immensely popular each year, we get great joy creating a safe and social environment and seeing the children develop their reading skills throughout the summer.”
The Family Library, which can trace its roots back over 100 years to the Rural Library, is run as an independent charity. They offer affordable, educational and creative activities to assist children in developing their skills and talents. In addition, a school service, mobile library, home delivery service and bibliotherapy service, which provides a lifeline to many of the Islands elderly and vulnerable. The library’s future is currently in doubt if additional funding cannot be found to maintain the services.
Paul Jones, Partner at PwC Isle of Man, said: “The Family Library is a brilliant place for children and their grown-ups to enjoy reading and activities together throughout the whole year. We’re proud to support the reading scheme, giving children the opportunity to continue with their reading, writing and creativity throughout the summer.”
