PricewaterhouseCoopers Aarata LLC (Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Takaaki Ino; hereinafter ‘PwC Aarata’) and PricewaterhouseCoopers Kyoto (Head office: Kyoto-city, Kyoto; Managing Partner: Keiichiro Kagi; hereinafter ‘PwC Kyoto’) have been in discussions to integrate, as announced in our previous press release dated 1 June 2023. We are pleased to announce that the two firms have reached a final consensus and have signed a merger agreement dated 2 October 2023.
Pursuant to the agreement, PwC Aarata (as the surviving audit firm) and PwC Kyoto will merge on 1 December 2023, and the name of the new firm will be changed to PricewaterhouseCoopers Japan LLC as of the same date.
The CEO of the new firm will be Takaaki Ino, and Keiichiro Kagi is to be appointed as acting CEO of the new firm.
Going forward, we expect to see significant changes in the environment in which audit firms operate, as firms are increasingly called upon to provide assurance over sustainability-related disclosures and continue to enhance audit quality through technological innovation.
Through this integration, we will continue to work to build trust and deliver sustained outcomes for our stakeholders by providing high-quality trust services that draw on the strengths of both firms and combine our capabilities into one.
We will also continue our efforts to realise PwC's Purpose: to build trust in society and solve important problems.
