Kontan.co.id - Jakarta. Pertamina New and Renewable Energy (NRE) prioritises its geothermal projects as potential candidates for funding by Danantara.

According to John Anis, CEO of Pertamina NRE, the company continues to develop other renewable energy sources. However, geothermal projects are considered to provide a reliable baseload power source.

"Geothermal is clearly capable of serving as a baseload. We already have an installed capacity of three gigawatts," said John in Jakarta, quoted on Tuesday (11/03).

He noted that this is different from other types of power plants, such as hydrogen, which still face high costs.

Additionally, wind power plants (PLTBs) and solar power plants (PLTS) are not baseload types.

Hydropower plants (PLTAs) also have a lengthy development period, typically ranging from 5 to 7 years.

"It's not that we don't work on other renewable energy sources; we do. However, geothermal is different because it serves as a baseload, meaning it is available 24/7," he said.

Furthermore, John mentioned that the company requires up to US$6 billion for expansion and to achieve the renewable energy power plant development target by 2029-2030.

"Our prediction is that by 2029-2030, we will need around US$6 billion. However, this figure can be dynamic if we decide to be more aggressive," he explained.

For your information, since its launch on Monday (24/03), Danantara, or the Investment Management Agency of Anagata Nusantara, plans to allocate its assets to accelerate the energy transition through investments in Indonesia's renewable energy sector.
